UNDERGROUND

about

Underground is a feature-length narrative film that follows five friends who become trapped inside a cave system deep below a mountain ridge in central Kentucky. In the darkness they must fight against confusion, the harsh cave environment and each other to survive. With no food, limited potable water, and only five dying flashlights, the path to freedom is much more convoluted than they can imagine.

The film takes advantage of digital technology to capture a hidden world rarely seen on film. Shot over seven days in November, 2005, the cast of five and crew of four hiked up to a mile underground each day, braving cold temperatures, permanent darkness, bats, mud, and a very cold underground river. The filmakers packed in equipment, food, safety gear, and enough battery power to last the entire day. Presented with real dangers, the filmmakers manage to balance the story on the thin line between truth and fiction.

The film is currently in post-production and will premiere at festivals in Spring/Summer ‘07.
